Movie Mush: Sleepless in Seattle
We saw them do it in You've got mail. And here they are, even better! Sleepless in Seattle is one of the earlier works of director Nora Ephron's earlier works. I had heard a lot about it for a long time but wasn't too eager to watch it because I had thought that it would be a run-of-the-mill rom-com. Then, considering that its Valentine's Day's Eve, I thought I could give it a try. And wow, such a perfect movie to watch before Valentine's Day! The story is about a recently-widowed man's son who calls a radio talk show in an attempt to find his father a partner. A woman is moved by his story and tries to get in touch with him. What follows is the story. Ah, the never disappointing Tom Hanks and my personal favorite, Meg Ryan make such a wonderful pair. Tom Hanks is almost flawless in his portrayal of a loving dad, a newly widowed husband who misses his deceased wife a lot and a person longing for love. ANd Meg Ryan, is beautiful: that one word is enough to sum up her performance. (I'm so crazy about her, sometimes I keep watching her that I lose track of the plot!!). Anyways, for one, this romantic movie is one that is devoid of many cliches that you usually would find in a rom-com: there isn't a lot of kissing or funny adult jokes or annoying friends of the guy or girl. In fact, the lead pair make a serious conversation only at the very last scene! I had thoroughly enjoyed the 100 minutes that I spent watching it. And I'm sure you would. After all, all of us are romantics deep inside... ♥
And I give it an 8/10.
